The Big Island Health and Wellness Alliance (BIHWA--formerly HIWTA) is meeting at the Dragonfly Ranch: Healing Arts Center on Sunday, Jan. 10 at 1pm. “Dynamic Governance” will be explained by visiting speaker, Carolyn Marie of Ojai, California, before the meeting discussing new leadership and expanded goals of the organization.
Anyone interested in health and wellness is welcome to attend.
At 1pm, Carolyn Marie will be talking about “Dynamic Governance”--a new system of cooperative leadership.
After the 30 minute talk, BIWHA attendees can use their new skills in Dynamic Governance to create a new board of directors and officers functioning as an alliance of individuals working together as a group with goals that can be accomplished with cooperation. The purpose of BIHWA is the same as that of the original Hawaii Island Wellness Tourism Association started by Susanne Sims in 2005--to help direct the sustainable development of health and wellness providers on Hawaii Island.
In addition to the guests speakers from California, one of the co-creators of the Hawaii Health Guide and the Hawaii Healing Garden Festivals, Katie Fisher will be joining the meeting to share techniques on how to use the internet and local networks to strengthen business, as well as how to be more involved ongoing programs and projects supporting health and wellness with local and state funding. Fisher says, “The Hawaii Health Guide reaches an audience of over 5,000 recipients through the internet with the press of a button.”
A start up organization, Hawaii Eco Villager Network (HEVN), is also working in alliance with BIHWA to foster self-sustainability and the use of the barter system with the Good KarmaAina Club on the Big Island. Members of HEVN will be sharing their progress, looking to increase awareness of their organization.
Moore encourages health care practitioners as well as anyone concerned or connected with improving personal health or the health of the land to attend the meeting at the Dragonfly to help chart the course of health and wellness in the community. “Last year, as president of this organization, health-conscious thinkers supported my representing the healing community at county council meetings--choosing to not have more Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) on this island. I also testified against Depleted Uranium (DU). As a group, we have more opportunity to protect ourselves from health hazards, creating positive change,” says Moore.
By joining together, BIHWA has created an informative website that is linked from the prestigious and well-used Hawaii Visitors Bureau. “We have Julia Fairchild to thank for making the new website with her computer wizardry and sheer dedication to our purpose.” Moore adds, “We had a rather dormant year for meetings and speakers as we were getting business matters sorted out after our dear founder moved off island. Now we have successfully regrouped to be supportive of one another. Denise Salomie, our retiring treasurer, was instrumental with her dogged determination to put our books in order, readying us for 2010. I have so appreciated working together with these two valiant women holding the vision of group cooperation in the healing community, making it possible for this worthy organization to move forward with unity in the coming year.”
Everyone involved in health and wellness in any form from all over the island, is invited to attend the Dynamic Governance talk followed by the organizational meeting on Sunday. Moore adds, “I am opening the doors to my B&B for those coming long distances and want to spend the night. Just call me in advance to make arrangements.” Moore encourages those who wish to join the organization and have the benefit of be included on the website but can not attend the meeting, to simply go to website, www.bigislandhealthandwellnessalliance.org , using Paypal for the $50 membership dues for 6 months or $90 for an annual membership.
After the meeting, at 3pm, Carolyn Marie will be facilitating “Creation Dancing” (www.carolynmarie.com in the Dragonfly Illuminarium. Moore says, “It is an honor to have this beautiful and talented being who supports positive reality models to be here, teaching us.” Moore adds, “Everyone who attended the first weekly Sunday class wants to return because of the empowering way Carolyn helped us foster confidence in the creative expression of our true feelings and desires—using dance as our modality.” While there is no charge for this pleasurable class, donations for Carolyn Marie will be appreciated.
